Piano Prize 2022Winner

Vasco Trindade

Portugal, piano

The opening was unhurried to the point of risk, and it worked: the first theme returned twice, each time quieter, each time meaning something different. What convinced us was the left hand — the bass line kept its own pulse through every tempo change, so the rubato read as argument rather than hesitation. The coda arrived with the weight it needs and none of the shouting it invites.
